Solid Waste

This service is provided to all residential, commercial and industrial users within the corporate limits of the City of Alma. This service is a mandatory service within the corporate limits of the City (see Ordinance No. 02-0210-1). The City of Alma presently contracts this service with an outside Contractor. Service is for all solid waste and DOES NOT INCLUDE ANY YARD OR GARDEN VEGETATION. Yard or garden vegetation may be disposed of at the City Compost Site south of town. A 96 gallon toter will be delivered by the City of Alma when a customer begins utility service.

Schedule:

	Monday and Friday - Commercial pickup days
	Tuesday - residences West of John Street
	Friday - residences East of John Street

Placement:

	The toter should be placed at the curb, preferably the night before your scheduled pickup. If you live on a corner it does not matter which corner you place the toter as long as it is done the same way every week.
	Elderly/Handicapped residents may notify the City of Alma and arrangements will be made with South Central Sanitation.

Placing your service on temporary hold (applies to vacationers and snowbirds):

If you would like your trash service temporarily discontinued, a fee of $15 is charged to have your toter removed from your property and another fee of $15 to have your toter delivered to your property upon your return.

The City of Alma is charged by South Central Sanitation for each toter in circulation, not each toter they dump each week. Therefore, if a customer requests a temporary discontinuance of service, it is necessary for the City to remove the toter from the property in order to avoid being charged by South Central Sanitation. The fee of $15 to remove and $15 to return the toter to customer's property is charged to compensate the City for paying its staff to perform this service.

	Yard fertilizer
	Yard chemicals
	Shingles, asphalt

	Concrete
	Yard waste: grass, weeds, tree leaves, etc.
	Cement blocks
	Branches, garden waste
	Bricks
	Bowling balls
	Construction and Building Materials need to be pre- approved by South Central Sanitation

	Clothes
	Cans
	Light tubes, Fluorescent
