Summary of City Boards, Commissions, and Committees

The following is a list of City Boards, Commissions, and Committees. It includes a brief description of their duties, the number of members that serve, the length of their term, and the meeting time and location.

Children's Advisory Committee

Seven members - No Term
Meeting Time:  Fourth Thursday of the Month, or as needed.
Location:  City Hall

The Children's Advisory Committee, appointed by the Mayor, has the responsibility of researching ways to spend the $100,000 donation.  All projects have to be approved by City Council.

Members:  Charlotte Bunn, Samantha Stuhmer, Mary Huggins, Jennifer Kreutzer, Joseph Torrey, Jessica Stemper, and Hilke Brandon.

 

Airport Advisory Board

Four members - Four Year Term
Meeting Time:  Third Thursday of each month, 5:30p.m. as needed.
Location:  City Hall.

Authority Advisory Board appointed by the City Council shall serve in an advisory capacity involving issues of jurisdiction and control over all facilities owned or hereafter acquired by the Municipality for the purpose of aviation operation, air navigation, and air safety operation.

Board of Health

Four members - One Year Term
Meeting Time:  When called upon. First Tuesday of the month or as needed.
Location:  City Hall.

The Board shall enact rules and regulations, which shall have the full force and effect of law, to safeguard the health of the people or the Municipality.  The board shall regularly inspect such premises and businesses as the City Council may direct.

Members:  Mayor - Hal Haeker, President of the City Council - Jon Davis, Medical - Shannon Lynch, Law Enforcement  - Sheriff Chris Becker.

Community Redevelopment Authority

Four Year Term

Meeting Time:  As needed

Location:  City Hall

 

The Community Redevelopment Authority, appointed by the City Council, determines and designates certain areas of the City in need of improvement and development.  The Community Redevelopment Authority can determine the types of improvements or development needed and recommend appropriate means for funding such improvement or developments for the maximum benefit to the City's taxpayers.  Contact Alma City Hall for further information.

Board of Zoning Adjustment

Five members - One Alternate - Three Year Term
Meeting Time:  When called upon.
Location:  City Hall.

The Board of Zoning Adjustment is appointed by the City Council.  Functions are partly administrative and partly judicial, are defined and limited by state enabling legislation and by provisions of the local zoning regulation.

This quasi-judicial body's powers include hearing and deciding appeals, map interpretations and granting variances from the zoning regulations.

Golf Board

Six members - Three Year Term
Meeting Time:  Second Monday of each month, 6:00p.m.
Location:  Country Club 

The golf board, appointed by the City Council, has the power to manage, care for, and determine the use of the Alma Municipal Golf Course.

Housing Authority Board

Five members - Five Year Term

Location:  Housing Authority Office

 

The Housing Authority Agency is a political subdivision, distinct and separate from the City of Alma.  The Alma Housing Agency shall constitute a public body, corporate and political, and shall have all the powers necessary of convenient to carry out and effectuate the purposes and provisions  of the Nebraska Housing Agency Act.  The Alma Housing Agency shall adopt and promulgate fair and equitable policies establishing a plan for selection of applicants.

Housing Rehabilitation Board

Six members - Four Year Term

Meeting Time:  As needed.

Location: City Hall

 

The Housing Rehabilitation Board, appointed by the City Council, helps administer funds provided by the Nebraska CDBG for the purpose of rehabilitation of homes owned by low to moderate income residents of Alma.

Library Board

Five members - Four Year Term
Meeting Time:  First Monday of the Month, 4:00p.m.
Location:  Library

It shall be the duty of the Board to have general charge of the Municipal Library and to establish appropriate rules and regulations for the management, operation, and use of the same.

Zoning/Planning Commission

Four Year Term
Meeting Time:  Third Thursday of each month, 7:00p.m.
Location:  City Hall.

The Planning Commission, appointed by the City Council, is a group of local citizens, appointed by the City Council.  The Planning Commission carries out planning activities and serves in an "advisory" capacity to the City Council.

Tree Board

The tree board, appointed by the City Council, has the responsibility of the care, planning and otherwise management of the City's trees and parks.

Hiking/Biking Trail Committee

The trail committee, appointed by the City Council, has the responsibility of the care, planning and management of the City's Hiking/Biking Trail.
